Raphael Schwartzman

Director, Producer & Creative Coach
“...You are going to want to keep an eye for any future projects in which [Raphael] has a hand.  With an eye for detail and an understanding of nonverbal storytelling that runs deep, we are proud that Saving the World can help show the Chicago
dance and theatre world what he can do.”

MARK YONALLY - ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, CHICAGO TAP THEATRE

Raphael Schwartzman (he/him) is a semi-nomadic director, producer, and creative coach hunkering down in the Midwest during the pandemic.

A Butler University Theatre graduate (2011), Raphael has trained and worked in the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Russia, and Czech Republic. His creative practice emphasizes collaborative authorship, conflict resolution, and empathic communication, and in rehearsals he draws on Psychophysical Action, the Viewpoints, clown, mask, and object work, to name a few techniques.

After directing, performing, and designing in Chicago for 8 years with theatres like Piccolo, Strawdog, Redmoon, BYOT Productions, and the Chicago Fringe Festival, he left in July 2019 to travel the country and connect with a wider network of artists.

Through his creative coaching practice Strike Home, Raphael supports artists and other creatives to develop their creative processes, clear blocks, and make what matters most to them. (sign up for a coaching session here)
